Dogo Onsen

It is said as the oldest onsen in Japan, there are stories that this onsen was once visited by Prince Shotoku and is a favorite place of Empress Kogyoku. The Dogo Main Building appeared in a famous novel written in the Meiji Period.

Dogo Onsen boasts 3000 years of history. In the main building that attracts a lot of people, you can find a simple alkaline hot spring. It was the first public bath facility that was designated as a National Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1994. Dogo Onsen is highly evaluated abroad, and in 2007, it received a Micheline three-star award, the only facility in Shikoku that has earned such a distinction. Currently, the main building is being repaired for conservation, but you can still enjoy the hot spring.
