Let us introduce flower viewing spots in Oita from the mid-February to May.

"Kawazu-zakura Cherry Blossoms"

Flowering time: Early to mid-February
Place: Youra-hanto, Tsukumi-shi

 




"Plum"
 
* Yoshino Plum Orchard *
Flowering time: Mid-February to early March
Place: Sugibaru, Oita-shi
The Yoshino Plum Orchard is one of the most famous plum orchards in Oita Prefecture. There are a variety of plum trees including “Bungo-ume,” “Aogiku-ume,” “Shirokaga,” and “Kankobai,” with a total of approximately 450 trees. People enjoy a relaxing time viewing beautiful plum blossoms.


* Okubodai Plum Orchard & Furuyadai Plum Orchard *

Flowering time: Late February to early March
Place: Okubodai Plum Orchard (Nishi-oyama, Oyama-machi, Hita-shi, Oita Prefecture)

"Rape plant"

* Nagasakibana Resort Campsite *
The rape flowers in full bloom in the 11.5 hectare fields in Kakaji are called a carpet of flowers in merry spring time. Singing birds, the sweet smell of flowers, a blue sea, and yellow carpets of rape flowers are beautifully contrasted with each other. Feel the spring!
Best season: Mid-March to mid-April

"Cherry Blossoms"

* Isshinji Temple *

The temple was built in 1963. It is known as a spring flower viewing spot with approximately 1,000 Botan-zakura (double-flowered) cherry trees in an area of about 66,000 square meters.
Flowering time: Early April to early May

* Oita Castle Ruins Park *

The park is a well-known cherry blossom viewing spot. Flower viewers gather to enjoy viewing the more than seventy trees of Somei-yoshino cherry blossoms every year.

Place: 4 Niage-machi, Oita-shi



* Kintetsu Beppu Ropeway *

Beppu Ropeway, located in the western part of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture as a part of the Aso Kuju National Park, is the longest ropeway in western Japan connecting the foot of Mt. Tsurumi to its summit. Various flowers are in bloom in spring. Cherry blossoms, Fuji-zakura cherry blossoms, and Miyamakirishima azaleas decorate the mountain slopes in spring one after another.

* Beppu Park *

Located in the center of Beppu City, Beppu Park is a symbol of the city where many people enjoy strolling and relaxing. The Park is used for a variety of events as well.
Flowering time: Early April

* Ninomaru Park *

People enjoy viewing the blossoms of approximately 150 cherry trees every year.

Flowering time: Late March to early April
Place: Nakatsu-kita Koen (Ninomaru Park), Nakatsu-shi




* Usuki Park *

The Usuki Castle Ruins have been developed into Usuki Park now. The park is a famous flower viewing spot in the southern part of Oita Prefecture with approximately 1,000 cherry trees blooming in spring.

Flowering time: Late March to early April
Place: 9-1 Usuki Nyujima, Usuki-shi



* Kicchomu Land *

This is a comprehensive recreational facility of approximately 150,000 square meters with rich natural surroundings and a history that gives people inspiration.
In spring, 2,000 40-year-old Somei-yoshino cherry trees bloom, making the place one of the most famous cherry tree viewing spots.

* Oka Castle Ruins *

The castle ruins have many cherry trees. Its beautiful scenery has been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan.

* Road of History and Literature *

Flowering time: Early April
Place: Ote-machi, Saiki-shi




"Botan-zakura (double-flowered) Cherry Blossoms"

* Josuiji Temple Eboshi Park *
One of the most popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Oita Prefecture. In spring, Botan-zakura cherry trees are in full bloom with dark pink flower petals laid one atop another forming an elegant cluster. 
Flowering time: Mid-April to late April
Kind of cherry tree: Botan-zakura (double-flowered cherry tree)
Place: Fujikita, Ono-machi, Bungo-ono-shi


"Tulips"

* Harajiri-no-taki Falls *

800,000 tulips of 100 kinds bloom in the rural area around Harajiri-no-taki Falls. In the tulip fields with a wide view, you can take nice pictures as if you are lost in a field of flowers.
Flowering time: Early April to late April
Place: Harajiri, Ogata-machi, Bungo-ono-shi


"Wisterias"

* Senzai Farm *

You can see 240 wisteria trees collected from all around Japan at the wisteria trellises (covering an area of approximately 8,000 square meters) next to tea plantations spreading from hills that give out the aroma of the first tea of the season.
Best season: Late April to early May

"Roses"

* Rose Hill Amagase *

This rose garden cultivates approximately 2,000 roses of 200 types.
Best season: Early May to mid-June
